The exhibition On the wool thread promoted by Luciano Donatelli, President of the Fondazione Museo Del Territorio Biellese and Vittorio Barazzotto, Mayor of the town of Biella, with the support of the Provincia di Biella and the Unione Industriale Biellesi set up by the Studio Cerri & Associates, is a great expositive event. A show- exhibition, a wonderful journey of sensations following that woollen thread that is so deeply involved in history to exceed the limits of the myth and to become one of the most recurrent symbols.
The exhibition is a collection of art works both ancient and contemporary that covers some of the fundamental themes of human history through poetical connections over times. This relationship excites the spectator' s fantasy combining archaeological pieces, major works of classic painting and contemporary art works.
The Greek bronze ram from the Archaeological Museum of Palermo, one of the most famous ancient sculpture, faces the painting of the XIX century by Segantini, picturing the sheep blessed by a catholic priest.
The popular Ariadne, archaeological marble sculpture of the Medici Collection, is confronted to the paintings of Giorgio De Chirico by which they were inspired.
The red wool thread of the images of Theseus on the Attic vase is the same red thread hold by a Russian Madonna of the XVI century and becomes the motivation in Arthur Miller's novels.
Along the show the fantasy of the visitors is constantly stimulated by the historical confrontations presented. This to understand how deep is the meaning of wool, from the initial thread to the spindle and the roll.
The innovation of the exhibition lies on the will to bring forward and outline the cultural Italian heritage to define a brand of production that will face, in the future, the international competition.
The exhibition illustrates the history of wool from the Ariadne's clew to the ball by Andy Warhol.
From April 21st to July 24th 2005 the Italian town of Biella in the Region of Piemonte welcomes the first show ever organised on the myth of the wool.
"On the wool thread", under the care of the famous art critic Philippe Daverio, is a collection of 100 pieces of art that cover the historical gap from ancient times to the XXth century from the most important international museums.
The exhibition is divided into 3 thematic sections.
The connections between the dislocated exposition areas are guaranteed to the visitors by a service of 30 ecological Fiat cars and other Maserati cars. The craftsmen specialised in allegoric wagons of the Viareggio Carnival decorate each car's bonnet with ram heads in paper pulp.
10 cars will move in some of the most important Italian cities promoting the Biella event.
The symbols of the exhibition are the golden plastic rams made by Cracking Art and the giant rams in glass resin located close to the most strategic areas of the motorway.
The 200 exemplar by Cracking Art are signed and numbered and will be sold to art collectors.
The event is revolutionary in several aspects. From the unique combinations of different pieces of art to the strong innovative impact of the staging: each section has a screen from which the curator Philippe Daverio comments on the pieces of art providing historical background.
The goal of the event is also extraordinary: it aims to reveal the soul of the town and its ability in working the wool that is the corporate identity of Biella and its region.
